Ah, another's post yesterday made me think of something. There is a common supply cache around here, is there not? I have no need to request of anything, but I did have a question for those that run it. Or, a proposition perhaps. I am a banker and businessman by birth inheritance and am highly trained and skilled with the workings of such a profession. I realize this is not exactly the same, but if you need a helping hand with keeping up with the supplies and rationing them out--well, that's where being a banker comes in handy. [He chuckles lightly.] I can keep my numbers quite well. I can help with records and the like.

[As if he doesn't volunteer/do enough crap around here, now he's going off and volunteering for more. Oi. Well, anyway, maybe he just wanted to do something familiar for a change. His new trips out into hunting are nice and all but he has to admit (at least to himself) that he misses his less adventurous duties, too. Besides that, it was something (else) he inherited from his father and he wanted to continue it even if it was in some strange place and not quite the same.

...

Or maybe he just needed another hobby. Anyway...]

I did think of something I can ask all of Discedo, including the supply cache since it's an item: does anyone have a scacchi--eschec...ches?--set? Or, perhaps, good at wood-work? Whittling? And would be willing to trade.

Does anybody know how to play the "King's Game"?

It sounds like they could be similar. It would be interesting to compare them sometime.. .... when I'm not as sore.

[There's an edge of concern in his voice masked well enough by the ever present frustration he's been bottling up ever since his arrival.]

You don't think that maybe you are spreading yourself a little thin?

[Back to his more casual tone.]

Are you in need of an opponent padre?

:3 /is pet~

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
You make cheese out of wine?

[ waaait for it ]

Eeeeewwwwwww!

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Cue the reassuring fatherly tone.] I can manage figlio. Do not worry about me. I can manage to devote my time accordingly to the multiple tasks. I don't have to do everything every day. I promise.

I would love to see how you've improved, Ezio.

I shall come over some time soon. I also look forward to the challenge. [D'awww, that would be cute. Giovanni would be somewhere between average to just above average, and would find it odd he's more on par with the intelligent machine playing that way.]

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's a nickname. I suppose they don't call it that anymore. In Italia they call it scacchi. In French it is called eschec.

voice.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think so.

[identity profile] cruelmiracles.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've played it once or twice before. There should be many people who know the rules; it's a common enough game.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
A strategy game played with two people. The most important piece on the board is the King of each player's army.

[identity profile] vengefulblades.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
If you say so, then I am inclined to believe you.

I will warn you now, you will likely be disappointed. I haven't had much time for practice.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
What would you make it out of, and what would you like in return?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
That would work. I will teach you this one, and you can teach me the other. Bene.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Grazie, Ezio.

Then I will simply have to reacquaint you with proper strategy. How ever did you manage to get this far without me, mio figlio?

[identity profile] webelarusians.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Chess? You play chess?

:D <3

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
With wine! The initial process is the same.

[Sigh.]

voice.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
So it would seem. Even here... Would you be one of those persons interested in a match?

n.n ♥

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh.

...

It still sounds gross.

[ He's like eight years old, what did you expect? ]

[identity profile] vengefulblades.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
Pensi nulla di esso.

[Fighting to keep that causal tone.]
It was in no way easy.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I do. It is a delightful little game of intelligence and skill, no? Both at once frivolous and learned.

♥!

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
To some, I suppose, yes.

"To each their own."

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[...] I imagine you had help.

voice.

[identity profile] cruelmiracles.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, after I have examined this world a little more closely. If you are offering, I should tell you that I prefer skilled opponents. A game against a beginner would be too short and not worth the time it takes to set up the pieces.

voice.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I assure you I have been playing for a very long time now. It is the mark of the noble. A learned man.

It is also very exciting to win when others are not expecting it.

[identity profile] vengefulblades.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Si, but not with scacchi of course.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
It was not meant to be forgotten. Surely you did not fail to recognize the lessons within its simplistic yet complex engagements?
