Ah, another's post yesterday made me think of something. There is a common supply cache around here, is there not? I have no need to request of anything, but I did have a question for those that run it. Or, a proposition perhaps. I am a banker and businessman by birth inheritance and am highly trained and skilled with the workings of such a profession. I realize this is not exactly the same, but if you need a helping hand with keeping up with the supplies and rationing them out--well, that's where being a banker comes in handy. [He chuckles lightly.] I can keep my numbers quite well. I can help with records and the like.

[As if he doesn't volunteer/do enough crap around here, now he's going off and volunteering for more. Oi. Well, anyway, maybe he just wanted to do something familiar for a change. His new trips out into hunting are nice and all but he has to admit (at least to himself) that he misses his less adventurous duties, too. Besides that, it was something (else) he inherited from his father and he wanted to continue it even if it was in some strange place and not quite the same.

...

Or maybe he just needed another hobby. Anyway...]

I did think of something I can ask all of Discedo, including the supply cache since it's an item: does anyone have a scacchi--eschec...ches?--set? Or, perhaps, good at wood-work? Whittling? And would be willing to trade.

Does anybody know how to play the "King's Game"?

[ Perfect! He was just getting bored. ]

King's game? What's that?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Scacchi.

[He pauses for a thoughtful moment.]

It is...a game played by two people each with 16 pieces on a squared board. The traditional pieces are carved into various social classes--the pawn, the knight, the bishop, the tower, and the King and Queen--and the object is to..."check?"... render the King piece inoperable. Hence the name "eschec."

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ Dash has some trouble pronouncing it at first...but then when he hears how it's played... ]

Ooooh! You mean chess?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I... Ches? Yes, I believe that is what it is called elsewhere.

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I played it once. It was kinda boring. And Vi beat me.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
It is meant to stimulate the mind, not the body as other sports. Like literature. [...] But it can be regulated to go as fast or as slow as the opponents wish it to.

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
...so it's like reading? [ Ew, reading. Sports are cooler, kthx ]

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well... in the fact that it takes thought rather more than simple reaction to win. One must strategize carefully in order to win.

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
But it's boring! Going out for sports is way more fun.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
If you say so, ragazzo. [...] The most competent 'sport' I know is that of hunting. I am best with the eagle.

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hunting? I just wanna run track. Mom won't let me, though.

...what's a "ragazzo"?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I see. Like the Greek festive sports. I confess I have never-- [Well. Does parkour count? Oh, crap. Shutting up now.] I am sorry for that.

A young boy.

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
She's always saying "Do your best" but she never means it! Some way of fitting in...

...oh. I thought it was some kinda cheese or something.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Now you're just making him worried. Maria was never restricting like that... well, then, it was pretty hard to restrict an Auditore.] I'm sure she means perfectly well. Mothers are just... protective.

[But that makes him chuckle despite himself.] That would be Ravaggiolo, or Ricotta, or Robiola, or, well, there are a lot of them.

...this is adorable |3 Also I broke it DX

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, you gotta restrict your kids when they've got superpowers. Too bad Dash doesn't understand that. ] But I promised I'd slow up...

Whoa. I've never heard of those! Do they taste good?

It is rather cute. ^^ ...eh, it happens. /pats

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... that makes sense. Unfortunately its hard to tell an Italian to be restrictive. >.> Though Giovanni's probably be worried about that speed if he could see it.] Hmmm...?

Certainly. They are Italiano. Many are made with varying wines.

These two will get along quite well, y/y? and /purrs

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing!

...I thought cheese came from cows or something.

Hee, y~ /pets foreverrrrrrrrrr

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Their milk, yes. Though you can add other ingredients for different flavors. We like wine a lot; can't really blame us for putting it into everything. [He chuckles.]

:3 /is pet~

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
You make cheese out of wine?

[ waaait for it ]

Eeeeewwwwwww!

:D <3

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
With wine! The initial process is the same.

[Sigh.]

n.n ♥

[identity profile] 100-mile-dash.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh.

...

It still sounds gross.

[ He's like eight years old, what did you expect? ]

♥!

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-04 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
To some, I suppose, yes.

"To each their own."
