Ah, another's post yesterday made me think of something. There is a common supply cache around here, is there not? I have no need to request of anything, but I did have a question for those that run it. Or, a proposition perhaps. I am a banker and businessman by birth inheritance and am highly trained and skilled with the workings of such a profession. I realize this is not exactly the same, but if you need a helping hand with keeping up with the supplies and rationing them out--well, that's where being a banker comes in handy. [He chuckles lightly.] I can keep my numbers quite well. I can help with records and the like.

[As if he doesn't volunteer/do enough crap around here, now he's going off and volunteering for more. Oi. Well, anyway, maybe he just wanted to do something familiar for a change. His new trips out into hunting are nice and all but he has to admit (at least to himself) that he misses his less adventurous duties, too. Besides that, it was something (else) he inherited from his father and he wanted to continue it even if it was in some strange place and not quite the same.

...

Or maybe he just needed another hobby. Anyway...]

I did think of something I can ask all of Discedo, including the supply cache since it's an item: does anyone have a scacchi--eschec...ches?--set? Or, perhaps, good at wood-work? Whittling? And would be willing to trade.

Does anybody know how to play the "King's Game"?

Am I? [He grins knowingly.]

It's another name for scacchi. A nickname due to the main piece of the game, the one you try to protect and that you try to take down the opponent's version.

[ mature tone has arrived! ] Indeed, you are.

[ aaand it's gone. Back to kidtiems. ] Really? Neat... What kinda game is it? One of those strategy ones or something? I always saw the guards playing those in their off time...

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Pity. [Sly and amused.]

Basically, yes. The point is to trap the other player's King piece while protecting one's own.

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ Okay, enough of that. It's fun to tease people but for now he'll just talk normally, kthx. ]

Oh, I see. An intellectual game, then? I'd like to try my hand at it sometime.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not like he was getting anywhere with Giovanni anyway.]

Indeed. I taught my sons; I am more than willing to teach others. After all, I will need opponents...

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hey, he tried at least.

Although the prospect of learning to play this game piques his interest. A lot. You might want to watch out though, Giovanni; the Zilart are a HIGHLY intelligent race, and Eald'narche isn't exactly the kid you may think he is. ]

Really? You mean you'll teach me?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
[He's beginning to suspect that but keeps it to himself. Either way, he's a more than competent player himself and will look forward to the challenge.]

Of course. It is not so hard. The basics are simple in fact. It's the strategizing afterwards that gets people. [He chuckles.]

This is going to be beautiful.

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[ Eald'narche just needs something to do that doesn't involve breaking people's brains for amusement. This'll do ]

Oh, I'm sure you'll find me to be a very fast learner.

In which case you make me think this is going to be horrible.

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Bene. It has been a while since I played against someone challenging. My sons are good, but they do not have my experience.

So. We shall see.

You never know, it might~

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh we will, will we?

[ There's an amused, almost dark chuckle. Oh yes, he's going to have FUN with this~ ]

Well. Fun for Eald and us, but misery for Gio. Better put?

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Mhmm. [He eyes Eald (or just the device, either way) suspiciously for a moment but the gaze is brief and hidden. He smiles (and mentally shrugs it off).]

Something like that :3

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I look forward to it! I was getting a bit bored, actually.

[ He quirks his eyebrow at Giovanni for a moment...then giggles like he did before. Prepare to be amazed when you begin teaching him, Mister Banker man~ ]

ffffft

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Never a good thing.

[Indeed. This will be quite interesting--and possibly frustrating.]

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Boredom can be very destructive, yes.

[ Well, you'll be up against a ten-thousand-year-old mage who secretly conducted a war just so he could get a mere obstacle out of the way of his grand master plan. How do you think you'll do? ]

>.>

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Sicuramente.

[This all depends on circumstances. Thankfully for you, he doesn't play with underhanded tactics! ...at least not in a friendly game of chess. >.>]

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Don't worry, Eald doesn't either! ...most of the time. He'll always play fair in a game of chess, of course~ ]

♥~

[identity profile] betrayedblade.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
[That's good to know. Heaven forbid they match wits in other areas though.]

~*♥*~

[identity profile] crystal-eyed.livejournal.com 2010-03-03 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ That would be quite disastrous, yes~ Ealdy doesn't play fair if his opponent is too strong to handle normally. :3 ]
