...perhaps I miss the old routine a bit much. This new one, while nice and cozy, makes only for a decent vacation. Yes, even despite the odd happenstances here and there. It is too...boring.

[He pauses. He's complaining. And he realizes he's turned the communicator without much thinking about it. He was past due for an update anyway, before he discovered for himself just what sort of energy the device packed, and had been thinking about it before he started in on the complaints of this place. Ah well.]

Boring. Listen to me--complaining like some sort of youngster who has nothing better than to get into trouble every day. I converse much too often with giovani here and start to reminiscence on my old lifestyle as if I could get away with what I used to.

[He sighs.] I am getting old. When you start saying 'I'm getting too old for this' it is well past time you are too old for...things.

...Ugh. Now I'm using circular arguments and boring unto death those silly enough to listen to these devices.

[...]

Though I can't help but to miss the action back home. Not just the routine... but the purpose. What purpose is there here?

[Fffffft.

Not so much lying as just avoiding the truth of the matter for as long as he can. He really wanted to test you, but seeing as you are now here instead of with Naja he things he has his answer anyway.]

I entangled myself in my own web, that is all. She doesn't know who I am but, well... [He chuckles.] ...she thinks I am a threat. She probably thinks I am stalking you or something.

[If this was a test he would like to know how well he was doing, or if he had already failed completely.]

Stalking me? [He can't help but smirk at this.] What could have given her that idea I wonder?

[Not that kind of test. But Giovanni likes the outcome.]

As I said, I did not tell her who exactly I was. Of course, she did not ask and did not offer her own name. I simply figured out who she was and made some comments about your association with one another that put her on guard. Apparently your working for her was supposed to be a secret.

It wasn't a well kept one.

Why not tell her? She will find out eventually, there are many who know the two of you and it will not take long for someone to make the connection.

[He stiffens somewhat at the mention of her secret, you know the one he kept for the most part.]

It was a secret. I only told you where I was, not the circumstances. And I did not speak a word of it to anyone else. [Then it dawns on him.]...She believes I told you, doesn't she?

Possibly. [He doesn't look as sheepish as he sounds, but he is repressing the urge to out-right grin for humility's sake. Your father isn't even remotely apologetic for his actions, Ezio.] Probably.

I'm sorry it was easy to figure out and that I mentioned it when she brought up her own woes--I thought they were petty and uncalled for really. [He waves a hand dismissively into the air.] And be that as it may, I have no intention of telling her who I am myself. (Neither does it bother me if someone tells her or she figures it out on her own.) When the conversation hit a certain point--just before she started defending you while trying to sound as though she wasn't--I couldn't help it anymore. The way she was talking about you to me of all people...

[Grand pause for dramatics.]

It was amusing. [He shrugs, not looking nearly as innocent as he probably should for the confession. Have a taste of your real dad, Ezio, and not the super!dad you once thought of him as. Whoops.]

[Blinks. Blinks again. Ok Papa you are starting to creep him out just a bit, but for the most part he sees this as beginning to be pretty damn funny.]

Well, I suppose I am glad she gave a half hearted attempt at defending my honor from my own father. That's one worry off my shoulders. [He is smirking by now the sarcasm clear and snarky in his voice.]

Amusing for you perhaps! You do not have to go and listen to her upset ramblings while I try to sort this out. Papa...I had no idea your sense of humor was so...[He can't find the word for it so he'll go with the next best thing.] I see where Federico got his from now.

[Giovanni chuckles heartily at his son's words. Maybe he feels a certain tug of sympathy but it hardly shows beneath his amused expression.]

I admit it was a bit childish the way I kept leading her on... [pause] But I couldn't help it. And I'm sure you'll be just fine. Like father, like son. Both of them. [He smiles genuinely, fondly at the last words.]
